The Marina Bay Sands casts a stunning reflection on the serene waters, enriching the Singapore skyline. As night falls, its twinkling lights illuminate the surface, enhancing the city's charm and emphasising the hotel's magnificence. This piece captures the brilliance of Marina Bay, reflecting on how the skyline symbolises our past promises for a brighter future. It encourages us to consider how these promises shape our future and how to balance progress with human nature and the environment.
The theme "Old Future" for BIEAF2024 invites us to reflect on how past promises have shaped our present. It encourages us to consider if our current progress aligns with our earlier hopes and to balance innovation with respect for human values and the environment.
Jesline Er, a Singaporean artist, discovered her passion for art in childhood, exploring painting and digital arts. As a lifelong member of renowned art societies, she actively participates in exhibitions organised by these societies and engages in both local and international art competitions. A career highlight was her oil painting showcased at the Haegeumgang Theme Museum in South Korea in 2022. Believing in the omnipresence of art, Jesline transforms nature into a canvas of positive messages. Embracing the ubiquity of art, she infuses positive messages into her creations. In August 2023, she unveiled her solo exhibition 'Nature in Art’, revealing her profound connection with the natural world. Jesline's paintings grace the collections of museums, organisations and private collectors.

JOAN JOSEP BARCELO
Spain
Mixed technique work representing the darkness of the night in the desert. Small pieces of black cypress wood are superimposed on a yellow background made with acrylic. Combination of black and yellow colours as abstract symbolism in artistic minimalism.
Joan Josep Barceló i Bauçà (Palma de Mallorca - Spain, 1953). He studied literature and science at the Universities of Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and London. In his career he has explored various fields of culture, including literature, thought and the arts. He is the author of numerous books of poetry in Italian, English and Catalan, having received important international awards and recognitions in his literary career. His poetry connects with visual art and performance, showing new concepts and styles of understanding literatura.
In addition to the literary world, as a plastic and visual artist, he develops his works through the use of innovative materials in plastic art, where his pictorial works and sculptures show a connection between natural and synthetic materials, with the creation of pieces framed in contemporary art. wanting to transmit the force of nature and the soul in a particular way that is characteristic of his style. In the field of art he has exhibited in numerous international exhibitions, both individually and collectively, in Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Korea, Turkey, Nigeria, etc.
The artwork is shown with the dominance of two colours, a yellow background on which a black piece stands out in collage. The contrast of both colours represents a duality between day and night, between light and darkness. The artwork is fundamentally based on maximum aesthetic simplicity and minimalism with which to express the strength of the opposite. The canvas, where acrylic dominates with yellow, extends over its entire surface on which a piece of cypress wood impregnated with black acrylic stands out to give volume and relief to the work. Day and night are two periods of time that occur in a constant cycle on Earth, the first is characterized by the presence of sunlight, while night refers to the period in the shadow and without light. The artwork thus not only represents duality but also the concept of time.

It’s an extremely extraordinary state to be an artist as anything around him and within him is a matter of concern as he do have a very sensitive and inquisitive and innovative nature. Anything and everything could inspire an artist as per my experience.
Every second, numberless frames are passing through our mind . Certain frames from those could stay there to distract or disturb you . Those frames could lead to an extremely exclusive creative experience and get transferred to canvas, paper or any other surface in any medium comfortable and convenient.
It’s a world of irregularities, selfishness, inhuman experience, disparities, and unethical behavioural elevations. It’s a pandemic like situation to make us blank ,hopeless and ineffective that takes us to the horizons of nothingness , dark clouds and emptiness. It’s sad that the adverse impacts are on nature, environment ,climate, art ,science, religion ,everything and ultimately on human beings and beings.
We are really far away from the bright Old that being promised to make the Future too in a state of uncertainty.
My works are the frames of my mind. My work is titled “ mind frames “.
This work represents all the unpleasant events and developments taking place in our present world . We are experiencing lack of concern and considerations for our Mother Earth and it’s inhabitants. It’s all being abused through wars ,selfishness and heartlessness.! John Joseph, born in Panangad, a village close to Kochi in the state of Kerala ,India in the year ,1950. Art journey started in 1971, while graduating in Philosophy from the great Maharaja’s college Ernakulam and as the atmosphere there was supportive to get attracted in art and start learning more. Recognitions in that level and the urge within made me carry on by exploring the field of art by admitting my limitations. Self taught artist who find relief through soulful creative efforts. Have spontaneously developed an exclusively unique style that's being recognised. Working mediums : oil , acrylic, watercolour, mixed media and drawing. Participation in number of group and solo shows and workshops in India and abroad. The latest feather of achievement is the 5th Tagore National Award 2023 for art that includes Trophy, Certificate and Cash organised by Rabindranath Tagore University for Literature and Arts, Bhopal. Collecters in India and abroad. Have spend quite a reasonable time in Middle East , mainly in UAE and Oman and have observed and get inspired with the artistic and cultural exclusiveness provided by the national and international committees in harmony and with hunger for art and culture. Has visited several countries and quiet a number of places in India as it’s an overwhelming experience and being fond of it.

Meeting with the Other - meeting with yourself
""This world is as real as it is created by the power of imagination"" (R.M. Rilke)
When I use the term ""meeting with the Other"", I mean not only meeting the Other within us, looking into ourselves and seeing what is deeply hidden there, but also seeing the Other - a human. Nowadays, there have been many changes that have caused people to close themselves off from meeting the Other.
The basis for meeting the Other is rejecting yourself, listening and looking at the Other. Such a meeting enables us to dialogue, but does not guarantee the possibility of complete knowledge of the Other. The Other is the Stranger whom we try to get to know, who allows himself to be known, but in fact will never be known. The other will remain a mystery.
These considerations can also be applied to the encounter with the Other within us. Only by listening carefully to ourselves and looking deep within ourselves will we be able to see and hear the Other within us. Each such meeting arouses fear and anxiety. However, only through encounters with the Other can we get to know ourselves and learn about ourselves. In other words, the Other allows us to exist.
The painting is the result of these thoughts, The soul immersed in silence longs for an impossible place. To the past, to moments of joy, to...
And yet to another place, a place unwritten, unpainted, unsaid. Places where imagination, guesswork and mystery stop. These places stop and focus attention, Places that were not spoken by language but touched by thought - unnamed places, Locked in silence.

My works are inspired by the Nasca Lines, both lyrically and historically. These lines, located in the Nasca desert, are geoglyphs depicting various animals such as lizards, hummingbirds, monkeys, dolphins, and different birds. They also include large geometric shapes spanning hundreds of meters. The technique used is mixed media on cardboard, incorporating acrylics, oils, textures, and sometimes water-based sprays.
JUAN CUYUTUPA, Born on July 17, 1948, in Miraflores, I discovered my talent for drawing early. I drew on everything and built over 100 airplane models. After schooling in Surquillo and the Escuela de Bellas Artes (1969-1973), I worked as a teacher for 28 years. My art debut was in 1972 in Lima and officially in 1974 at Galería Mutual Perú. Since 2000, I fully dedicated myself to art, winning honors at IPAE. Since 2010, I have traveled as a cultural manager to various countries, including the USA and Europe. My works are exhibited internationally in museums.

JUNG AI HAN
South Korea
Jung Ai Han's work is divided into two periods: the first and the second. The oil paintings of the first period use a variety of colors to create a free and organic intersection of lines and straight edges, while also forming a structure made up of vibrant, colorful surfaces. The second period, which began in the 2000s, combines abstract art with botanical themes. What remains consistent throughout her work is the story of human life.
When we have someone in our lives with whom we can share our secrets, we possess a precious treasure in life. Human beings find happiness in having a friend to whom we can confide and with whom we can relate during times of tranquility. It is certainly fortunate to have a dear friend to whom we can open up, who offers support, comfort, and someone with whom we can talk to. This world is full of secrets, but you and I share them with each other, empathize with each other, and rely on one another.
– From the Artist's
NotePerhaps she reflects in her work the world of colorful emotions that stem from the joys and sorrows of life. She dissolves various emotions—such as dreams and love, happiness and unhappiness, joy and sadness, gratitude and resentment, anger and elation, hope and despair—and projects them into her art. If she were to avoid these emotional shifts, her paintings would lack vitality and warmth. She clearly recognizes that mental and emotional growth is possible by fusing, purifying, and sublimating these diverse emotions.”
- From a review by art critic Shin Hang-Sup

Jyoti Saini

As the painter of this piece, my intention was to capture the raw energy and emotion that flows through the intersections of different elements in life. Each color and shape in this painting represents a facet of human experience, from the cool, calming blue to the warm, intense reds and yellows.
The blue triangle at the center symbolizes clarity and focus amidst the chaos, serving as an anchor in the ever-changing landscape of emotions and events. The surrounding red, yellow, and green hues represent the dynamic and sometimes turbulent nature of our interactions and experiences.
Through the overlapping shapes and vibrant colors, I aimed to convey a sense of movement and transformation, reflecting how our lives are constantly evolving. This painting is a visual exploration of how different aspects of our existence come together, sometimes harmoniously and sometimes in conflict, to create a complex and beautiful whole.
I am an accomplished artist and art curator based in India, currently serving as the director of the Jyotikriti Art Organization. My career is driven by a deep passion for fostering creativity and promoting artistic expression. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to curating a multitude of international and national art exhibitions, both offline and online. These exhibitions have not only provided a prestigious platform for artists to showcase their work but have also bridged cultural and geographical divides, allowing diverse artistic voices to reach a global audience. As the director of Jyotikriti Art Organization, I have been instrumental in organizing exhibitions that span a range of artistic mediums and styles. These exhibitions have served as vital spaces for artists to engage with the public and gain recognition for their innovative work. By curating exhibitions that highlight the richness of artistic expression, I have aimed to create opportunities for artists to connect with audiences and fellow creatives, thus nurturing a dynamic and inclusive art community. In my continuous effort to celebrate and document artistic talent, I recently launched an international coffee table book titled ""Creativity in Depth."" This publication represents a significant milestone in my career, encapsulating the essence of contemporary artistic innovation. ""Creativity in Depth"" offers readers a visual journey through the diverse and dynamic world of modern art, presenting a curated selection of artworks that reflect the varied approaches and perspectives of contemporary artists. The book serves as both an artistic record and a source of inspiration for those interested in the evolving landscape of global art. My involvement in the art world extends beyond curatorial work, as I have also explored the realm of filmmaking. This year, I directed two documentary short films that delve into the narratives of artists and their creative processes.

The future is created by the accumulation of the past. I believe that human wisdom creates a bright future. I also believe that dreaming about the future allows us to enjoy the unknown. This time, I have expressed such a bright dream for the unknown using colored pencils. Dreaming also leads to hope for the future. If we are alive, we want to live happily, dreaming about the future, if possible. And I want to build peace with friends who share the same dreams.
Hiroshima-born artist Kaoru Kushima began to draw to process the effects of interpersonal trauma. Influenced by Japanese avant-garde painters and manga, Kushima creates abstract and figurative drawings in colored pencil and ink. She forms intricate, yet delicate compositions of lines and circles as well as floral and animal motifs. Through her own healing journey, Kushima offers a message of universal love and acceptance. She says “I wish to communicate that, even when you are desperate, although you may not be aware of it, oceans of love support you and, thanks to love, you survive.

We promised to understand and treat people, children and ourselves better in the future.
And we have. We have studied psycology, pedagogy, the human mind, resilience and practiced acknowledgement and pure kindness. But with all the new wisdom comes the insecureness and recognition of all the things we do not understand. We are now in a spiraling speed seeking more wisdom, more understanding…and loosing our present to the spidersweb of intruiging thoughts day and night, struggling to just accept. Accept and be.
BIEAF2024 'Ole Future' : An inspiring opportunity with a title that kick starts a whole lot of reflection. I am definiteæy looking forward to see the exhibition when it is ready.
I am just me. Me who now struggles in life, yet know as a smiling and warm person. I find peace in making art. I have a vision to make art with a love and dedication to the process, because the process is healing my soul, and hopefully the final artworks let the viewer feel a brief relieve while looking at the dreamy and beautifully pictures. of Abstract expressionism make a illusion of colors and dimensional forms to create a feeling of depth in following the spirit of nature. I mainly deal with nature. The nature that surrounds us is an a infinite source of wonder and beauty. It is static and the continually changing I find inspiration-in the tiniest detail of nature -drop of rain water, a falling autumn leaf- a speak of white in a blue sky ....my experience a completely unexpected discovery of bright and bold colors. Nature is not always bright and bold, but I consciously depict my nature in those high-pitched colors bring a new tune ,sing a new song , tell a new story...
I like my chorus part to be loud and joyous so that I can renew myself with hope. In other words, art for me – like nature itself – is a source of hope and inspiration. By bringing this in my art, I don’t look for logic; instead - I look for rhythm. Carefully structured sequences for feeling of pleasure I live for the drama of the moment that reveals itself like the crashing foamy waves of the ocean: spontaneous, determined and majestic.

I always thought people are not praying for what they really want. I wanted to make statue that people can pray for what they really want.
It was never about just being healthy, being rich, being happy. There are always something that they really want from dip inside. Ignore the moral, law, humanity and all the things that disturb your wish. Just pray for what you really want.
