BIEAF Story

The 21th BIEAF2023 Steering Committee

The works of the participating artists reveal their love for the environment and art, as well as their thoughts and philosophies about the future. You can feel that even though the language is different and the environment is different, the emotions are the same. Art is a powerful message that speaks louder than words. We welcome artists from 65 countries and express our respect and gratitude. We hope that our efforts and hopes will create a bright future.

Greetings

Nice to meet all the artists around the world. I am very happy to have an exhibition with 391 artists from 65 countries.
It is a very meaningful event that art of people around the world is gathered and displayed in one place in the name of 'environment'. As the theme "The Old Future" means, BIEAF2024 is a festival of artists who communicate with people around the world thinking about the future of environmental change. The expression is different for painting, sculpture, craft, etc., but all participating artists' passion for art is shown.
From 2000 to today, BIEAF has tried to communicate human, art, and environmental concerns and philosophy. Now, after 23 years, more artists are participating and communicating, and it is becoming an environmental art for all around the world. The management committee and the deliberation committee at home and abroad are exchanging opinions and transforming into a more advanced BEAF.
Art has no borders, only languages. Even though the words are different, the sympathy of visual language is the same. We have been together for a long time on the theme of 'environment'. I would like to express my gratitude and honor to the domestic and international BIEAF steering committee members, staff, and artists who have worked and studied to gather at BIEAF to further develop and go far. I hope you are always happy.

Welcome to the 21st Edition of the Busan International Environment Art Festival (BIEAF2024)!

Dear artists, art lovers, and esteemed guests,

It is a great honor for me to welcome you all to this year's edition of BIEAF. This festival is more than just an event – it is a global dialogue, a powerful gathering of 391 artists from 69 countries, all sharing one common goal: the relentless drive to make the world a better place through art.

In a world that is constantly changing, we are reminded that the "present" is the shining promise we made in the "past." But now the question arises: Are we truly satisfied with what we have achieved? The theme "An Ancient Future" challenges us to look deep within and reflect on the kind of future we want to create for the next generations.

The artworks we present here are not just expressions of our creativity, but also of our hopes, fears, and dreams. They are testaments to our shared humanity and our deep connection with nature. It is time for us to philosophize our future lives not just as individuals but as a true community. Recognizing human nature and engaging in a dialogue with nature is crucial to shaping a sustainable future.

BIEAF2024 is our collective promise – a promise that transcends environment, race, religion, borders, and language. It is an invitation for everyone to connect, reflect, and together develop a greater vision for humanity.

Let us embark on this journey together, using art as our guide, and breathe new life into the "Ancient Future." May this festival inspire us to become our best selves and create a world that exists in harmony with itself and with nature.

With best regards and deep respect,

Poetry Inspired by BIEAF2024:

An Ancient Future's Light

In the whispers of time, where past meets now,

We walk the paths our ancestors plowed.

Yet in the present’s fleeting grace,

We see the future’s tender face.

An ancient song, a timeless plea,

Echoes through the land, the sky, the sea.

“Remember me,” the Earth does cry,

In every leaf, beneath each sky.

Artists gather from near and far,

Guided by a single star,

To craft a world where hope can bloom,

And darkness yields to light's perfume.

With brush and pen, with heart and mind,

They seek the truths we’ve yet to find.

In colors bold, in shadows deep,

They show the dreams we all can keep.

The future calls, old as the sun,

A dance of many, moving as one.

In every stroke, in every line,

We shape a world by grand design.

So let us join in this grand quest,

To build a future where all can rest,

In harmony with nature’s song,

Where every soul can find where they belong.

For in the art, we find our way,

To a brighter, kinder, ancient day.

Let’s walk this path, both old and new,

And paint the world in hopeful hues.
